A full sell out of 60 anglers braved harsh conditions. Heavy overnight frosts with highs only reaching 6C during the day seriously effecting the fishing.
Winner today was Danny Wilson who chose to fish the method feeder fishing long with waffter hook baits. It really was a sit and wait competition and three pulls was enough to produce 24-4-0 of carp from peg 7 by the sailing club and a place in the March Grand final.
Second overall was Mick Slater from peg 100 on the Sanctuary bank, who also fished long on the method with waffter hook baits. Again it was a waiting game for a precious bite or two and Mick managed a couple of carp for just 20-8-0.
Third to the frame was Joe Jaggar with just 15-6-0 from 104 Sanctuary, all to the method and waffter hook baits.
Fourth placed Frankie Giontelli fished hard for a couple of pulls which produced 13-8-0 all to the method fished at distance from peg 4 sailing club.
Fifth overall was John Cawthorne with 12-12-0 from peg 2 on the sailing club bank.
Overall a very difficult winter qualifier with anglers reverting to tactics to silver fish just to get a bite or two and many of the field not catching at all.
It is what it is at this time of year but was always open to one or two bites that could have put anyone through to the Grand Final.
