Match & Specimen Lakes
20 match qualifiers started this Sunday, with 3 qualifiers making their way to the March 2021 final.
The first qualifier was a total sell out of 60 anglers. All competitors fishing feeder tactics only so only open enders and method feeders allowed.
Overall winner was Andy Power (Preston) who drew a peg he knows well which was peg 80 on the Specimen Lake. It was a fairly slow start for Andy, catching only small skimmers for the first couple of hours and odd decent bream.
Andy fished both the open end feeder and method feeder with wafter and dead red hook baits.
The last hour was the most productive for Andy, as he found large carp down his edges, so he laid the method feeder over them with a waffter hook bait, landing 178-11-0 and a place in the March Final.
Second overall was Steve Brindley who drew peg 28 on the Match Lake.
Steve caught most of his carp and F1 catch fishing tight down his margin with method feeder and wafter or hard pellet hook baits.
Steve finished the day with 155-11-0 and an overall zone win, taking him to the March Final.
Third placed Marius Grigaitis was unlucky not to be making his way to the final with a fine catch of quality carp to 12lbs all caught on the method feeder from peg 26 on the Match Lake.
Marius caught short and down his edges with the method loaded with micro and waffter or hard pellet hook bait.
Fourth placed Martin Tayloe (HT Angling) was third in the zone with 94-5-0 of carp and F1’s from match peg 46.
Martin caught short and later down his edges winning his section comfortably.
Fifth overall was Neil McKinnon (Preston) from peg 24 on the Match Lake.
Neil caught on the method feeder tight to the island with pellet and wafer hook baits, weighing in 85-11-0.
